Roberto Gracia Jodez, Sarah Morris, and Iwo Jakimowicz, three friends with a common passion for exceptional Spanish wines!
Roberto Gracia Jodez, son of winemaker and father of two children, grew up in Ateca, a small town located in the region of Calatayud, (province of Zaragoza, Spain). The region is famous for the hospitality of its inhabitants, its arid conditions, and its rich history. For several years, he worked in the vineyards of a cooperative cellar, where he met Sarah Morris and Iwo Jakimowicz, two Australian oenologists passionate by Spanish wines and terroirs.
In 2011, the three friends decided to start their own business, bought a few small plots arround Ateca, and created Casa de Si. With the precious help from Fernando Gracia Jodez, the brother of Roberto, they produced a first vintage in 2014.
Today, the winery owns about 10 plots located between 600 and 1000 meters above the sea level. The most accessible plot was planted with Grenache Noir in 1997 on rocky clay soils. You can find the other plots a few kilometres away, hidden between the pines and wild rosemary growing in the hilly landscape of the region. Even if Grenache Noir reigns supreme, various autochthonous grape varieties are cultivated within each plot, forming a beautiful mosaic in the landscape. There, the argillaceous schist soils support the life of 60 to 90 years old grapevines.
The objective of the winery is to produce craft wines that express the region and its terroirs. Hence, the grape production is free of any agrochemicals (synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, etc.) and the winemaking is not distorted by any additives. The wines are bottled without clarification nor filtration to preserve all aromas and taste characteristics of the land.
